St. Johann im Pongau

St.Johann im Pongau - Lichtensteinklamm -

A city with many different faces

The Lichtensteinklamm

The Lichtensteinklamm is one of the most beautiful and deepest wild water canyons in the Alps. This unique natural phenomenon is always worth to be visited. Daily opened from the beginning on May to the end of October.

1875 a few members of the alp-association explored the Lichtensteinklamm. With a generous donation from prince Johannes II from Lichtenstein the expedition could be finished and so the name was found. For the hiking tour to the Lichtensteinklamm are warm clothes (depends of the season) and good footwear recommendable.

Jogging and Nordic walking

Movement in the mountains belongs to the most popular and most beautiful summer activities. Important is the experience in the nature and the effect for body and soul.

In the summer of 2006 St. Johann built a fitness-parcour with 7 running- and Nordic walking trails along the Salzach. Starting point is at the power station Plankenau with a fitness parcour for strengthening and stretching. On he different stops were assigned the degree of difficulty, the length and consistence of the trails.
